Solvang: Travel to Denmark without a passport

image via expedia.com
Solvang is a quaint Danish-inspired city just stone throw away from Santa Barbara, this makes it a good day trip out of Santa Barbara to get a little taste of Europe in California!

Direction: On Highway 101, exit at Buellton and continue on Highway 246.

Things to do:

1. Try some homemade Danish pastries
Notable area specialties: Aebleskievers and Smorgasbord
Highly recommended: The Solvang Restaurant, Green House Cafe

2. Shop for chocolate.

Most shops offer free samples, so feel free to drop by and have some, even when you don't plan to buy any. Just that... you will end up buying anyway.
Recommendation: Ingeborg's Chocolate Factory

3. Wine tasting
Recommendation: Sevtap Winery Tasting Room

4. Ride a Horse carriage
Horse carriages are common to the city of Solvang, and it is good if you want to know more about the history of the city.

5. Architecture self-guided tour
The architecture of many of the façades and structures reflects traditional Danish style.

6. Photograph the WindmillsThere are 4 wooden windmills in Solvang. Track them down one by one!
