France: dessert bucket-list.


In France, you will never find yourself short of perfect desserts to end a good meal. The only thing you have to worry about is the calories.



1. Mille-feuille
Also known as a “Napoleon cake”, this elegant multi-layered crackly thin pastries sandwiched with delightful cream may just be the highlight of your dinner.

2. Religieuse
It is made of two tiers of choux pastry filled with pastry cream with the smaller sized pastry sitting on the larger one.

3. Opera cake
If you are a coffee-addict, you will absolutely love this coffee-soaked cake heavily layered with coffee buttercream and chocolate ganache.

4. Macarons.
I don't think I have to tell you what these are. These tiny colourful bite-size treats will make you smile ear to ear!

5. Tarte Tatin 
How do I put this... perhaps an upside down Fruit pie.

6. Creme Brulee
An all time favorite French dessert perfect to end a good french dinner. Thin hard caramelized surface at the top and creamy soft custard below, this is the boom.

7. Souffle
Soft, airy and heavenly! Perhaps the best of all is the Grand Marnier soufflé.

8. Île flottante
The "Floating Island"-- An island of meringue floating on crème anglaise. It can also be called "eggs in snow".

9. Clafoutis
A baked French dessert filled with black cherries (occasionally some other fruits).

10. Crêpes
Crêpe is a streets food in France. You may think that you've tried Crepes a million times before... but if you never try one in Paris, you've never tried one. Classic: beurre et sucre (butter and sugar).

11. Far Breton
It is similar to a Clafoutis, commonly made with prunes or raisins.

12. Ispahan
This is definitely one of those most beautiful desserts in the world. This delicate dessert is a startling combination of rose, raspberries and lychees, topped with a rose petal.

13. Mont-Blanc
The dessert resembles a snow-capped mountain, more precisely, Mont. Blanc!

14. Baba au Rhum
Small cream-filled yeast cake saturated in rum. Savarin is another version, comes in a ring shape.

15. Dacquoise
This cake consist of layers of almond and hazelnut meringue sandwiched with buttercream

16. and Gelato! Never forget the gelatos!

Omg so frickin yummy! And works of art, certainly. I "had to" help buy and photograph many of these on my last Paris trip, toughest job ever ;)

I can imagine it, Suzette! Gonna do the exact same thing as you 1 month from now! Any other suggestions?
