Going Down the Memory Lane with Kedai Ayamas!

Many many years ago, when I was a kid, my siblings and I used to jump up and down for Ayamas roasters.

When we followed our parents to Carefore on a weekly basis for groceries, that one thing that we looked forward to was passing by Kedai Ayamas, looking at the whole roaster turning “gracefully” in the grill oven and we never fail to bring back our's. Yea, that made our day, it felt like Christmas every week.

When we all left Malaysia for studies, it all went down to memory and years later, Carefore became history. No one in my family talked about Ayamas roasters anymore.

On that fateful day, I was on my way home after a long day at work when I saw a familiar shop. This particular Ayamas in Sungai Dua has a dine-in option, with about 3 tables in the shop. So instead of taking away, I suggested to my mum that we have it here, for once.

There are several types of Roasters available:

Golden Roaster (original taste), Pepper Roaster (with black pepper), and Percik Roaster. Unable to decide, we took a Golden half, Percik half, some crispy fried and a portion of quarter pepper roaster chicken rice.

Personally, I think no other can top their Percik Roaster. Grilled after marinated with chili, coconut milk and lemongrass, it truly will be an explosion of flavors on your taste bud. Trust me! Best of all, the chicken remains juicy and tender. Although the marinade are only applied on the skin, somehow the flavors manage to infuse into every part of the chicken. Best of all, the chicken remains juicy and tender.

We ordered a “Mini Fun in Bun" hotdog as well, although its nothing impressive, it lives up to the name, fun bun, great for kids.

Another delicious dish was the Aglio e olio Spaghetti. Hmmm~ Sedap! Pair your meal up by adding a carbonated drink for only RM 1.00 at selected outlets. I simply love the flavors of the garlic with Italian parsley and cheese combined, not to forget the little hint of pepper flakes. Who would have thought simple Aglio e olio will go so well with percik flavorful chicken! My mum had a portion of bolognese pasta, according to her it was delicious as well but I was too busy with mine. Sorry not sorry.

Last but not least, shout out to Ayamas signature chilli sauce. Yea, no Ayamas meal is complete without the heavenly, original sauce right out of my childhood memory!

Done with your meal? don’t forget to pack some pies and muffin for supper! Well to step it all up, I bought two packets of Shortbread. I could use some energy fuel for my on call tomorrow.

I don't know about all of you, but my memory of Kedai Ayamas date back even wayyy before any popular fast food chains in Malaysia.
