Welcome to the enchanting world of Gero Onsen, one of Japan's top three hot springs! 🌊 Nestled in the heart of Gifu Prefecture, this onsen is celebrated for its rejuvenating waters and picturesque surroundings. Just an hour and a half away from Nagoya by a scenic limited express train, the journey to Gero Onsen itself is a delight! 🚄
Known as the "Bijin-no-yu" or the hot spring of beauty, Gero Onsen boasts a colorless and transparent alkaline hot spring that leaves your skin feeling smooth and radiant. Yes, you can feel the effect on your skin instantly! And when I say instantly, I do not exaggerate. No wonder Japanese love to incorporate Gero into their Girl’s trip itinerary!
We stayed at the illustrious Suimeikan ryokan, a renowned establishment along the tranquil Hida River, and it's nothing short of a dream! 😍
Suimeikan, a historical ryokan that even hosted the Emperor, offers a variety of rooms, from luxurious to more affordable options. The ryokan's expansive grounds feature a beautiful Japanese garden, well-equipped facilities including a pool and gym, and an array of exquisite artworks on display. With three public baths, each with its unique charm, the onsen experience here is unparalleled! 🌸
Our room, a cozy Japanese-style haven, provided a comfortable space to relax. While there are 2 western comfortable bed to sleep in, the traditional tatami and futon setup can be requested anytime, adding to the authentic experience. Oh, and did I mention the view from the room? Breathtaking!
Dining at Suimeikan is a culinary adventure! The ryokan offers various restaurants, allowing you to savor Japanese, Chinese, and French cuisine. As for our dinner option, we chosed to indulged in French delights. I mean how well French cuisine is going with the typical Japanese onsen experience? I am curious.
Turn out, they did a great job. My main was The Hida beef, a local specialty, was a highlight, grilled to perfection as per requested! As for my mum, we informed the kitchen earlier that she do not take beef, and so she was served a generous portion of fresh lobster and prawns!
The breakfast buffet was a delightful mix of Japanese and Western dishes, providing a perfect start to the day. Oh, and don't forget the small sweet snack in the room – a thoughtful touch to ensure a comfortable onsen experience!
As for the onsen, we tried the "Observation Bath" and "Shimodomenoyu" cypress bath. The hot water was soothing, leaving our skin silky smooth. Gero Onsen truly lives up to its reputation!
Though our visit was short, the ryokan's ambiance and the charm of Gero Onsen left an indelible mark. With its rich history, scenic landscapes, and meticulous attention to detail, Suimeikan is a haven for onsen enthusiasts. Gero Onsen, a gem in Gifu Prefecture, awaits your exploration! 🌟✨
