Looking for a guide to Krabi Night Markets? Read on!
Transportation
1. Most tourists like to stay near to Aonang Beach. But please be aware that the Krabi Town is situated 30 minutes away from there.2. I went to Krabi town from Aonang in a Song Thaew (public bus). One way should cost 50 Baht during daytime and 60 Baht at night. There are no explicit bus stops, so do ask the locals.
3. You can also take tuk-tuks or taxi. There were a lot of Tuktuks that offered to take us there for 300 Baht.
4. When you see the signature Cavemen/Monkey-carried traffic lights, you’ve reached your destination.
Location
5. The most famous night market is located on Krabi Walking Street, Thanon Khon Dern (ถนนคนเดิน in Thai ).When to visit?
6. The night market only opens during the weekends. So make sure you schedule your visit on a Friday/Saturday/ Sunday.7. The night market is held from 6 to 9.30pm.
8. Try to arrive earlier in the evening so that you can grab a table at the open-air seating area. You can also enjoy the live performances on the stage.
9. If time is on your side, I recommend combining your visit to the Krabi Town Night Market with a visit to the Tiger Cave temple, Emerald Pool and Krabi River.
What if you are not in Krabi during a weekend?
10. On Wednesday afternoon, try Klong Haeng village.11. There are 2 daily night markets. One is near to Chao Fah pier on Khong Kha Road (open daily from 17.00 - 00.30) and another one is opposite City Hotel on Maharat Soi 10 Road (open daily from 16:00 – 21:00).
Where to stay near the night market?
12. For backpackers, Amity Poshtel is a popular choice. Dorm starts from $7 USD.13. Holiday station hostel is also a highly rated property. Dorm starts from $7 USD.
14. For couples, I highly recommend City Hotel Krabi, which located just opposite a night market. Double room starts from $20 USD.
15. Green house hotel is another affordable pick, walking distance to the weekend night market. Double room starts from $20 USD.
16. Sweet Home Guesthouse located behind the city market and 5 minutes from the weekend night market. Double room starts from $17 USD.
What to eat?
17. A lot of Krabi residents are Muslim. Hence there are a lot of stalls serving halal food. You just have to look around.18. There are 70 Thai food stalls. When we were there, we had a tough time deciding what to eat…Too many food to try, so little stomach space! So in this post, I’ll list down some food that I found interesting.
- Banana Nutella Pancake
- Thai Sausages
- Sausage bread
- Rainbow Cheese Toast
- Fresh Mussels
- Squid or Chicken Skewers drenched in Thai Chili Sause
- Grilled fish
- Spiral shells
- Colorful Sweets
- Quail Eggs with minced pork
- Fried Ice-Cream
- Pad Thai
- green papaya and baby crabs salad,
- coconut ice-cream/ pudding
- Green mango salad
